Storm Hit? We've Got You.

Lake Norman and the greater Charlotte metro sit squarely in one of the most active severe-weather corridors east of the Rockies. Spring and summer bring supercell thunderstorms that regularly produce quarter-sized hail and 60+ mph straight-line winds. Tropical remnants sweeping up from the Gulf drop torrential rain and tree-damage-level gusts. Every year we pull dozens of roofs off homes in Huntersville, Cornelius, Mooresville, Davidson, Denver, Statesville, Concord, and Charlotte that were totaled by storms the homeowner didn't even know had hit.

Hail and wind damage is sneaky. From the ground, your roof usually looks fine. Up top is where the story is — bruised shingles with cracked mats, lifted tabs that have lost their sealant, dented soft metals (gutters, vents, flashing) that confirm a hail event. That's why a proper storm inspection is the only way to know.

Common Types of Storm Damage We See

  • Hail bruising — circular impact marks that fracture the fiberglass mat and shorten roof life dramatically
  • Granule loss — exposed asphalt from hail strikes that accelerates UV degradation
  • Wind creases & lifted shingles — broken adhesive seals from gusts over 50 mph
  • Blown-off shingles — full tabs or courses missing from high-wind events
  • Damaged flashing & ridge caps lifted by wind
  • Tree limb impacts — punctures, crushed decking, torn gutters
  • Dented gutters, downspouts, siding & AC fins — evidence that supports a hail claim

Our Storm Claim Process

1. Free storm inspection. We come out, get on the roof, and document every impact with photos and a written report. You get a copy whether you file or not.

2. Honest call on whether to file. If the damage is minor and wouldn't justify a claim — or would raise premiums more than it's worth — we'll say so. We're not here to talk you into a claim you shouldn't file.

3. File with your carrier. If damage warrants a claim, you open it. We give you the photos and documentation to include.

4. Adjuster meeting. We meet your insurance adjuster on site. This is the step most homeowners skip and it's the #1 reason claims get underpaid. We walk the roof with them, point out every impact, and make sure the scope reflects the real damage.

5. Supplements & negotiation. If the adjuster misses items or underpays line items, we handle the supplement process — not you.

6. Complete the repair or replacement. Once the claim is approved, we do the work. You only pay your deductible.

Beware of storm chasers. After a major storm, out-of-state companies flood the area with door-knockers promising "free roofs." They collect deposits, install cheap work, and disappear before winter. We've lived and worked in Huntersville for years — if anything goes wrong, you know exactly where to find us.

Why Local Matters for Storm Work

The NC Department of Insurance has specific rules around how storm claims are handled and what a contractor can and cannot do. Roofers who don't live here often get this wrong — which can void your claim. We know the carriers, we know the local adjusters, we know the process. That experience makes a real dollar difference in what your claim gets paid.

Storm Damage FAQs

Most North Carolina carriers require claims to be filed within one year of the storm event, but many prefer much sooner. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to prove the damage came from a specific storm. If you suspect damage, get inspected.

Typically no — storm losses are classified as "acts of God," meaning they are not assigned to your individual risk the way a liability claim would be. That said, every carrier handles it differently. We're happy to talk through the decision with you.

If your claim is approved, you only pay your deductible. Your carrier covers the rest, up to your policy limits. Our inspection is always free, and we do not charge until work is authorized.

Sometimes. If damage is truly isolated and your roof is young, a repair may make sense. Most hail events damage the entire slope, though, which is why insurance often approves a full replacement.

No. Storm inspections are always free — and you get a written report either way, whether you file a claim or not.
